A New Beginning for the Challenge Garden

The Challenge Garden is beginning to come alive again as the weather warms. It's an exciting time in the garden, especially this year. With the unfortunate lack of access to school grounds during the beginning of covid policies last spring, the garden was not active during the summer of 2020. That meant that when we returned to school in the Fall, nothing was growing in the garden. The Challenge Garden was in a sad state.

Taking time in the Fall to fully care for the garden, including completely pulling out any remaining dead plant debris and prepping each garden bed with cover crop and straw mulch to make them ready to take on a Colorado winter. It was also a clean slate to start from!

Now we turn to planning for the Spring and Summer of 2021 with fresh eyes and a completely fresh garden to plant in. A new beginning for the Challenge Garden! We have exciting ideas in store for each and every bed. We are combing through the piles of seed donations we have on hand and beginning to select plants. With our planning meeting in February, we started forming the outline for a beautiful garden to take shape...

A RAINBOW GARDEN!

With good weather, a lot of hard work, and some luck, the volunteers in the Challenge Garden will help a rainbow garden come to life! When kids return next August, we expect there to be a vibrant garden waiting for them to enjoy.

We look forward to growing fun things like white tomatoes, black eggplant, purple cabbage, orange peppers, black carrots, flowers of all colors and more!

Challenge families, if you want to get involved, we are always looking for volunteers for planning, work days and watering days.
