Spring has sprung!
Last fall we went into all of the Team B classes to get the kids' help planting garlic. We used garlic from last year's challenge garlic harvest as the "seed" for the fall planting. The kids had a great time learning how to plant garlic! We talked to the kids about how the garlic would get settled in before the winter came, but they wouldn't see much happening until spring. Now they can finally see the results of their planting! They had also planted some lettuce and spinach seeds which made it safely through winter and are looking ready to harvest. Yum! The garlic will not be ready to harvest until July, however, it will store quite nicely and be ready for a future harvest sale when the kids get back to school in August 2019.
It's a long haul to go from planting garlic in Fall 2018 to eating in August 2019, but we love that the kids can go out on recess and watch it grow each day.
Check out our next updates on spring plantings we've done with the Team C kids!
